Search Committee

Whitney Museum of American Art

99 Gansevoort St

New York, 02115

Dear Members of the Search Committee,

As an Black MFA dance artist I value three main ideas: authenticity, self-confidence and freedom of speech. In my own choreographic practice, I utilize a fusion of classical ballet and African diaspora dance forms to validate my transparency and vulnerability. I have had to survive and dance is a cathartic experience for me to escape my reality. Through a variety of images, footage or displays of dance I strive to evoke a response that challenges your own set of beliefs and is representative to the people.

I am contacting you to express my interest in the Curatorial Research Assistant (Dance & Choreography) opportunity with The Whitney Museum. After reviewing the position requirements, I believe that my qualifications and educational pursuits are a great fit for this position.

The value I will bring to your organization includes a strong work ethic and communication skills which I have developed through my academic experiences. I am well versed in interpreting dance, innovating pedagogic practices in our field, and proficiency in movement and choreography. I have contributed significantly to team projects, collaborative efforts, and achievements through my interpretative and innovative abilities.

As I am eager to take the next step in my career, this opportunity would expand my network but also give me the opportunity to offer expertise in movement and choreography skills and knowledge that you require in a new Curatorial Research Assistant. I am excited to move ahead with an interview to discuss the possibility of joining The Whitney Museum. Please feel free to contact me for additional details of background or to schedule a time we can meet. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Authentically,

Eryn Cade
